June the 16th day 1867 Mr. Thomas Bastin. Dear Uncle, For the first time in life I seat myself to wright you a few lines to let you know where I live and what we are doing. I saw a letter from you directed to Uncle William C. Bastin and connections which I was glad to read and learn that you were still living and well. I well remember when you left my Fathers in Pulaski County for Tennessee though, I was a boy. I would like very much to see you once more if it is God's will in life. I was married in my 20th year it being 1840 March the 30th day to Eliza J. Bryant daughter of Abner Bryant on Pittman Creek in Pulaski Co. My wife has had 10 children 6 boys and 4 girls. One son and one daughter is dead. 2 sons and 2 daughters married. We have 5 grandchildren. My oldest son served 3 years in the 19th Kentucky Infantry Union Army. One of my daughters married Chaptain John Morgan of the 7th Tennessee Reg. Colonel Cliffs Reg. he is a Gentleman and a man of some property, he lives in Rhea County near Washington, Tennessee. I paid him a visit last fall, he is a Radicle all over. I live I live 3 miles from the Halls Gap on the Somerset Road on the Oald free Negro place at the forks of the road. I don't know whither you remember it or not. I have a good house with 8 rooms, very well furnished and a barn. I keep entertainment on the Road and I would be pleased to entertain you a while this fall at free cost the best I am able. There is a railroad station in 5 miles of me. My Father Godfrey Young died January the 21st day 1854. My My sister Tega A. Mason died December the 27th day 1853. My sister Eliza Jane Long died July the 13th day 1864. My Mother died July the 26th day 1864. My Brother John and Henderson and Benjamin Young live in this neighborhood and are all doing well. Brother John's family were all girls 8 I believe, 2 of them married brothers. Henderson has his 2nd wife , 2 girls married. He is selling goods and keeps the Halls Gap Post Office, brother Singleton and Brother Nelson both live in the Illinois and both have their 2nd wife. Brother Singleton I reckon is getting rich. Uncle William C. Bastin is living near me , our farms join. Sam his son is married and are carrying on a tan yard on Fishing Creek at Adamesis. James, Uncle Billy's 2nd son is married and is carrying on the tan yard near Halls Gap and is getting rich. Uncle Johney Bastin and family were all well the last account, his children are all married and living clost to him in Casey, he lives on the old place yet. Uncle Azariah Bastin's are all well and they live about 8 or 9 miles down Green River. Uncle Henry Reed is still alive but very feeble.Aunt Anna has been dead some 18 or 20 years. Well Uncle I will tell you that I am the Radicle Candidate for our next Legislature in our County. I have 4 opponents all of them call themselves the Conservative Rebels. I will beat them very easy if they don't rule off all but me, and I am not sure but that I will beat them then, though they are the strongest party in our County. Please answer this and give me a full act of all your family. Your nephew, William Young
